Difference Between ‘Hook Model’ and Free Trial

A ‘hook model’ is a type of sales model that has proven highly successful for digital products, especially in the Anti-Spyware/Registry Cleaner space. This is how it works: When someone downloads the software, the program runs a free scan of their PC. The scan then shows the customer the threats or problems that have been identified on their PC. If they want to remove these threats or fix the problems, they have to purchase the software.

Compare that to a Free Trial, which means the customer gets to use the software for a set period of time (usually 7-30 days), at the end of which they have to purchase the software to continue using it. With thorough testing we have discovered that the ‘hook model’ converts at a much higher rate and dramatically reduces the sales cycle for the types of products on our network.
